Bullying has become a major
problem in the last few years and there have been more school shootings and
suicides because of it. We can avoid
these terrible and heart breaking events just by getting involved.
Bullying is an issue we
encounter almost every day and most of us aren’t even aware of it. It can
happen anywhere and at any time; at home, at school or at work. One of the major issues with bully is that
most people just brush it off. They don’t take the problem serious and downplay
the issue so they won’t have to deal with it.
Even parents or teachers would say,
• Being bullied is just part of growing up.
• You need to toughen up.
• They’re just jealous (Will & Neufeld, 2002:51).
So people start to think it’s normal to be
bullied. Some people even believe that
it’s their own fault that is causing them to get bullied. They actually think they are the ones at fault
and that they should get picking on.
They end up enduring something that can crush their self-image, when
they don’t have to. Most victims don’t
report bullying because they are afraid that it might make it worst; so they
endure it. They end up bearing the violence, the verbal abuse, the fear, the
shame, the prejudice, the sexism. We can’t
stand for this anymore: We will not tolerate people who make others feel
uncomfortable in their own skin.
This is for the ones who
have been suffering at the hands of their oppressors. For the ones who feel need to change to ‘fit
in’ so they won’t be ridiculed anymore.
For anyone whose had enough of bullying, sexism, racism, and just plain
rude people.
